HACKENSACK — Robert “Bob” Peterson, age 86, of Hackensack, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at St. Cloud Hospital due to heart complications (86 year old “rusty pipes.”) He was born to Carl Oscar and Myrtle Peterson on June 11, 1926, in Hackensack.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga. In 1951, he married Arlene Tabaka in Longville. He was a member of the Pine River Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years from 1958 to 1978, and a member of the Hackensack Legion from 1946 until the present time, marching in 65 consecutive Memorial Day parades as a member of their firing squad. Bob was the first licensed master plumber in Cass County and also built many quality homes in Pine River and the surrounding area. People would wait several years to have Bob build their home. After retirement he spent the next 25 years cutting trees and working in the woods. He was an avid deer hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.
Bob is survived by his children, Joan Helms (Rodney), Carol Johnson (Jim Blanchard), Bruce Peterson (Marilyn), Carl Peterson (Shari), Jerry Peterson (Brenda); brothers, Russell Peterson, Donny Peterson; sisters, Joyce Coder, Nancy Olson; stepbrother, Lee Peterson, Kenny Peterson, Calvin Peterson, Jerry Peterson; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Justus Peterson; brothers, Carl “Sonny” Peterson, Jack Peterson; sisters, Peggy Norris and Betty Miller.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, at Heartland Baptist Church, Hackensack, with Pastor Steven Harlow officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
