BAXTER — Earl Joseph Funk, 83, of Baxter, died at his home on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, Minn., with visitation one hour prior to services at the church with Father Dan Weiske officiating. Military honors provided by VFW Post No. 1647 of Brainerd. Interment at the Baxter City Cemetery.
Earl was born on Oct. 13, 1929, in Brainerd, Minn., to Carl and Marie (Benoit) Funk. Earl was a member of the United States Army. He married Vida Abroe on Dec. 4, 1954, in Brainerd, Minn. Earl worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 44 years. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, Minn. Earl received many safety and attendance awards. His interests included hunting, fishing and shooting practice. Earl enjoyed going to the casino.
Earl is survived by his children, Terri (Jerry) Jaker, of Elk River, Minn., Joni (Gerald) Bonnette in Comstock, Wis., and Steve (Cheryl) Funk, of McCook Lake, S.D.; grandchildren, Doug, Dan, Mike, Jeremy and Alicia; great-grandchildren, Eli, Kyla, Jacob and Taycee; sister, Fran Dionisio, of Schaumberg, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Vida. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter, Minn.
