PINE RIVER — Wayne Joseph Crowley, 72, of Pine River, Minn., passed away on Jan. 4, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1940, on a farm close to Iona, Minn., to Raymond and Kathryn (Bulfer) Crowley. He was joined in marriage on Aug. 27, 1967, to Patricia Ann Palmer.
Wayne entered the Air Force in 1960 and graduated from Officer Cadet School in 1961. He served until 1969 when he was discharged from active duty in Tacoma, Wash. Wayne and Pat moved to Pine River in 1969 where he farmed. He joined the Air National Guard in Minneapolis in 1970, flying to numerous countries around the world, until he retired in 1982 as Lt. Colonel.
Wayne served on the Walden Township Board for 25 years. He lectured at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Wayne enjoyed farming, caring for his cattle and working on tractors. His favorite pastime was visiting with friends and family and was a great storyteller. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pat; his son, David and daughter-in-law, Tina; grandchildren, Noah, Kyara and Shane of Pequot Lakes. He is survived by his mother, Kathryn, Fulda, Minn.; and siblings, Frank (Nadie) Crowley, St. Paul; Joanne (Tony) Mussi, Mesa, Ariz.; Ellen (Ken) Anderson, Foley, Minn.; Bob (Lee) Crowley, Iona, Minn.; Bill (Terry) Crowley, Iona, Minn.; Colette (John) Struthers, Hazelton, Idaho; Ron (Sharon) Crowley, Spirit Lake, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Crowley and a stillborn son.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pine River. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River and continue one hour prior to the Mass at church on Wednesday. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the donor's choice of charity. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
