Judith Delores Schrader died on Thursday Jan. 3, 2013, at the Bethany Good Samaritan Nursing Home with her family at her side. Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Bethany Chapel at 1 p.m. The reception will follow in the Bethany conference room. Officiating will be Father Tony Wroblewski.
Judy was born in Brainerd, Minn., on Jan. 11, 1942, the daughter of Marie and Gordon Fitch. Judy was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Patsy (Gottsch) Fitch, Dick Fitch, Jim Fitch, Duane Fitch, Dorothy (Wayt) Fitch, Barbara (McDonald) Fitch and Bob Fitch.
Judy graduated from Brainerd High School in 1959 and was married to Ronald Schrader of Brainerd in May of 1961. She is survived by her husband of 51 years and three children, John Schrader of Brainerd, Connie McCauley of Brainerd and Michael Schrader of Sartell, Minn.
Judy will be remembered by her family as a beautiful and dedicated wife and a loving mother who always went the extra mile in caring for her children. She insisted on semi-annual dental care for the kids whether needed or not and regularly attended parent/teacher meetings. Judy was a great cook and always, the family came first. Judy was forever watching gourmet cooking shows and buying cook books. Her daughter, Connie, still has bookshelves full of cookbooks her mother bought for her. She loved the outdoors, camping, bonfires and the water. She enjoyed fishing and often urged John and Mike to get out on the lake and catch some fish for dinner.
Judy suffered for nearly 20 years with a rare incurable affliction called Huntington’s Chorea. A genetic disorder with no cure that slowly diminishes physical functions such as walking, talking, balance and swallowing. This horrible disorder ultimately cost Judy her life after a very long battle. Never once did she complain about her problem in all those years.
Judy will be missed by her husband Ron, sons John and Michael, daughter Connie, granddaughter Ashley Terrell, grandson Tom Terrell, and granddaugthers, Kali Schrader, Lauren Schrader and Emily Schrader as well as great-grandson Hunter Brandenburg.
