Arnold Inge Olsen, 81, passed away Dec. 31, 2012, at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter, Minn. Friends may visit with family on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the church. The Elks Lodge of Sorrow will be at 7 p.m. Interment will be private at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minn.
Arnold was born in Crosby, Minn., on Feb. 15, 1931, to Inge Olsen from Norway and Selma Hallberg of Aitkin. He was the third child of five. He married Norma (Curry) Olsen in 1956. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in 1949. He graduated from Minnesota School of Business with an accounting degree in 1951. He served in the Army from 1952-1954. He was employed with Direct Service, which became Western Oil and Fuel and was later obtained by Continental Oil Co. until 1971. He was then employed in Brainerd by Consumers Oil Co., ICO, and 1982-1992 had his own business — Central Lakes Oil Co. He was a member of Brainerd Lions, Brainerd Elks PER, Brainerd American Legion, Sons of Norway, and Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma; son, Steven (Denise), of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Debra Olk, of Sartell, Minn., and Jan (Jason) Gaalswyk, of Farmington, Minn.; grandchildren, Olivia and Sofia Olsen, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ryan (Leah) Olk, of St. Cloud, Minn., Lindsay Olk, of Sartell, Minn., Jessica and Jenna Gaalswyk, of Farmington, Minn.; brother, Donald Olsen, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and sister, Margie Lien, of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; sister-in-law, Doris Olsen, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arnold was preceded in death by parents, Inge and Selma Olsen; sister, Elsie; and brother, Oliver. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
