Jack D. Enfield, age 79, formerly of Pelican Lake, Merrifield, died on Dec. 2, 2012, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living.
Jack was born on May 1, 1933, in Detroit Lakes to O.W. (Jack) and Hazel (Tollefson) Enfield.
He moved to Brainerd in 1938, and attended Brainerd Public Schools, graduating from Brainerd High School in 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army Construction Engineers from 1953 to 1955 with a year in Korea. After his discharge, he worked in construction as a carpenter and then was appointed as Building Official for the City of Brainerd. He served in that position until his retirement in 1995. He was a honorary lifetime member of the Northwest Minnesota International Chapter of Building Officials, Inc.
Jack was a volunteer fireman with the Brainerd Fire Department for 20 years and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran church. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 255 for 56 years and also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1647.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Mariann; son, Joseph and his wife, Kelli (Roberts); grandchildren, Alec and Hayley; sisters-in-law, Lois Johnson and Cleone Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Alvina and Oscar Johnson; sister-in-law, Elaine Westre; brothers-in-law, Erling Westre, Floyd Johnson and Larry Johnson.
Memorial service will be on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to service at the church.
