WADENA — Irma Catherine Crane, age 92, of Wadena, Minn., died on Nov. 27, 2012, at Tri- County Hospital in Wadena.
Irma was born in Milwaukee, Wis., to Stephen and Anna (Remsik) Jancovek Jan. 12, 1920. Later, her mother married Joseph Laub and they moved to Ladysmith, Wis.
Most of Irma’s growing up years were spent on a farm near Ladysmith. Irma attended elementary school in the community of Port Arthur, and attended Ladysmith High School graduating in 1938.
Irma began her career with the telephone company in Stanley, Wis., in 1940. She also worked in the Traffic Dept. in Milwaukee, Wis., during part of the 2nd World War (1945-1947). In September of 1947 she transferred to Minneapolis where she worked in the Traffic Dept., the Plant Dept., and also the Engineering Dept from which she retired on April 1972. Irma retired after 32 years for Ma Bell.
On Dec. 31, 1970, she married Joseph Crane in Minneapolis. In 1976 they moved to the Hinckley, Minn., area where they built a home. They also lived in the Brainerd, Minn., area and Clarissa, Minn. Irma and Joe spent several winters in Arizona and moved to Wadena in 1998.
Survivors include one sister, Catherine Boss, of Appleton, Wis.; one stepson, Brian Crane, of Loretto, Minn.; stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph of 34 years; her parents; her brothers, Stephen Laub and Joseph Laub; and a sister, Shirley Hovis; also two brothers, John and Joseph Jancovek, who died in infancy.
Friends may gather at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wadena until the time of service at the cemetery. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Wadena Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Scoggins presiding. Arrangements are with the Schuller Family Funeral Home in Wadena.
