PIERZ — Harry H. Gross, 88-year-old resident of Pierz, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. A memorial service for Harry H. Gross will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz. Friends may call Saturday from noon until the service at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz.
Harry H. Gross was born Aug. 18, 1924, near Lastrup, Minn., the son of the late John and Eleanor (Weiss) Gross. He grew up on the family farm near Lastrup and attended country school. Harry entered the U.S. Army on July 18, 1949, and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1950, due to an accident which shattered his ankle. He returned home and on May 29, 1951, was united in marriage to Elaine M. Motschke at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, Minn. The couple dairy farmed five miles northeast of Pierz until 1970. Harry also worked as a truck driver for Preimesberger Lumber Co. and later for Larson Boats in Little Falls. In 1970, Harry and Elaine moved to a house just outside of Pierz. He then worked as a backhoe operator for a cable company until retiring. Harry enjoyed taking drives in the country and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Little Falls VFW Post No. 1112.
Harry H. Gross is survived by his daughters, Karen Gross, of Pierz, Minn., Mary (Dan) Gill, of Sauk Rapids, Minn., and Teri Shors, of Oshkosh, Wis.; grandchildren, Kyle and Keefer Gill; sisters, Evelyn Ortman, of Lastrup, Minn., and Bernice Meyer, of Cushing, Minn.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine (1990); parents; and a sister, Helen Loidolt.
