PEQUOT LAKES — Arlen “Bud” Sergent, 77, of Pequot Lakes, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, with his loving wife of 54 years at his side.
Bud was born in Aitkin on Sept. 23, 1935, to Karen Alfhild (Nickander) and Andrew Sergent. He graduated from Aitkin High School.
Bud married the love of his life, MaryJo Ritter, on June 14, 1958. They have four children: Bret (Sue) Sergent, Monica Sergent, and Holly (Mark) Wiebolt, of Pequot Lakes, and Troy (Sheri) Sergent, of Lakeville. Bud was known as “Bumpa” to his 11 grandchildren, their spouses and numerous friends.
Bud was a commercial painter in Minneapolis for 14 years before moving his family to Pequot Lakes in 1972. He then owned and operated Sergent Sewer Installation for 41 years and was also a volunteer fireman for many years.
Bud loved his wife and family more than anything else. His only hobby other than taking care of his family was his love for sports, especially the Minnesota sports teams and the Pequot Lakes Patriots.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Kline Funeral Home in Pequot Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Nisswa with visitation one hour prior to the service.
