PIERZ — Viola M. Neeser, 71-year-old resident of Pierz, Minn., formerly of Brainerd, Minn., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at the Harmony House in Pierz, Minn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at St. Mathias Catholic Church in St. Mathias, Minn. Burial will be at the St. Mathias Parish Cemetery in St. Mathias. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. A parish prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel.
Viola Neeser was born July 8, 1941, in Lastrup, Minn., to the late Jake and Laura (Leeb) Pella. She grew up on a farm near Hillman, Minn. She was united in marriage to Daniel B. Neeser on Oct. 21, 1963, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman, Minn. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on a small farm in St. Mathias. She stayed there until Dan’s death on June 27, 2005. Viola then moved to Pierz to the Kamnic apartments until September 2009. After her last surgery, she moved to the Harmony House in Pierz. She enjoyed baking bread, sending cards and letters, cooking and trying new recipes.
Viola is survived by children, Ronald Neeser, Sharon (Steve) Offenhauser, of Cottage Grove, Minn., Vicki (John) Maleski, of Freedhem, Minn.; six grandchildren, Matt, Keri, Chris, Brooke, Nicole and Adam; and one great-grandchild. Viola is preceded in death by husband, Daniel Neeser on June 27, 2005; grandson, Nicholas Van Slyke.
