STAPLES — John Riggs, age 80, of Staples, passed away at St. Cloud Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012. A funeral service is planned for Monday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the Staples Church of Christ. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 3-5 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
John was born on May 23, 1932, in Bertha, Minn., to Floyd and Nettie May (South) Riggs. After completing high school, John entered the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served his country for three years. Upon returning from the service, he worked for Butler Manufacturing as the lead man in the paint department, for 24 years, retiring in 1984. He was united in marriage to Helen Johnson on Aug. 12, 1995. He was a member of the VFW Post 7826, Faith Lutheran Church, in Miltona, Minn., and the Lake Irene Association.
John is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Judy Kedrowski, Alice Majerus, Vicki (Dewey) Jenson, James (Jeanne) Johnson, Debra (Hank) Bailey, and Jeffrey (Lori) Johnson; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Cleo Carter and Gloria Swart; brother, William Riggs; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
