VERNDALE — The funeral service for Alfred “Al” Wutzke of Verndale will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at St. Frederick’s Catholic Church in Verndale with Father Arlie Sowada as celebrant. Al passed away on Aug. 28, 2012, at the age of 76, at his home near Verndale.
Alfred Delano Wutzke was born to Alfred Jay and Johanna (Freadrich) Wutzke on Oct. 13, 1935, in Goodrich, N.D.
Al and Theresa Ann Cameron were united in marriage on Jan. 2, 1957, in Staples. He served in the United States Army in 1957 and 1958 in Korea. As a member of the Verndale community since 1950, Al worked on road construction and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. His time away from work was spent ice fishing and deer hunting, and he was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan. Many community members will remember that in winter months he was “the on-site butcher” for area farmers.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa, in May 1998; parents, Alfred and Johanna; brothers, Ernest, Ben and Gilbert Wutzke; and sisters, Agnes Sanborn, Wilma Liebig, Elvera Shefield and Pearl Bradley.
He is survived by his children, James (Terri) Wutzke, of Coon Rapids, Nancy (Don) Johnson, of Champlin, Katherine (Mike) Moore, of Macon, Ga., Mark (Connie) Wutzke, of Annandale, Michael (Becky) Wutzke, of Frazee, and MaryJo (Jay) Schroeder, of Princeton; 18 grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Honorary pallbearers were Loren “Lefty” Cameron, David “Ike” Cameron, Herb Domeno, Bob Fisher, Cork Anderson, Louis Randall, Steve Lorentz, Ralph Breyen, Don Cameron and Ken Carpenter.
Serving as pallbearers were Chad Cameron, Larry Hackler, Loren Hacker, Gilbert Wutzke, Tim Wutzke and Joe Wutzke.
Burial will be in the Mother of Sorrow Cemetery near Aldrich.
Arrangements are with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes’ Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena and Verndale.
