SOLDOTNA, Alaska — Soldotna, Alaska, resident Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Morgan) Armstrong, 89, passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2012, at The Heritage Place in Soldotna.

No services will be held per Dorothy’s request.

Dorothy was born on April 29, 1923, to the late John and Georgia Morgan, near Pillager, Minn. Dorothy lived in Pillager until her early 20s and then moved out to Portland, Ore., where she worked in the ship yards during World War II as an electrician’s helper. In 1964, her son Doug, introduced her to a U.S. Navy man, Richard Armstrong. Dorothy and Richard were married on Sept. 26, 1966, in Portland. Soon after, they moved to Puyallup, Wash., and lived there until moving to Soldotna, Alaska, in April of 1999 to be closer to family. Dorothy was very talented at crocheting and making desserts. Many people were blessed to receive one of her wonderful handmade blankets or plates of peanut butter fudge. Dorothy’s favorite color was purple and every summer she looked forward to the lilac bouquets that filled her room with her favorite scent. She and Rich enjoyed going to weekly lunches with the local HAM radio club. In her later years at the Heritage place she loved to visit with the nurses, employees, family and friends. Her family and friends will miss her and they all feel very blessed to have been a part of her life.

She is preceded in death by her sons’ Dean Nelson, Dale Nelson, and Danny Armstrong.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles Richard Armstrong, of Soldotna, Alaska; son, Douglas Nelson, of Soldotna, Alaska; brother, Leo “Bud” Morgan, of Winona, Minn.; sister, Lois Sandberg, of Pillager, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Letters of condolence can be sent to Richard Armstrong, P.O. Box 1837, Soldotna, AK 99669.

Arrangements made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
