Kenneth Lee Barclay, age 77, died peacefully at his home on Aug. 10, 2012. He was surrounded by his family as well as Misty, his constant four-legged companion.
Ken was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Lufkin, Texas to U.G. and Frankie (Manry) Barclay. Ken was the only boy and grew up antagonized and adored by his four sisters.
As a young man, Ken enlisted in the Marines where he served 9 1/2 years, discharged as a corporal. While stationed in California, Ken met Judy Lundquist, who would become the love of his life. They were married on Feb. 29, 1964, in Las Vegas, Nev. Judy’s determination and Ken’s groove were a unique combination that served them well through life’s ups and downs.
In 1964, Ken and Judy moved to Minnesota with their daughter Kris. Ken graduated from St. Cloud State University and spent 30 years working as a tax auditor for the state of Minnesota.
Ken and Judy have three children: Kris (Jay) Petersen, Shane Barclay, and Shawn (Patti) Barclay. Ken loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Many hours were spent playing cards, hunting, fishing and passing on the wisdom of the ages, as well as an occasional “Ken-Tale” or two.
Ken is survived by his children; grandchildren: Erin, Matt, Christopher, Ryan, Jack, Ali and Nicole; great-grandchildren: Sophia and Jacob; siblings: Mary Anna (Butch) Vance, Betty Sue Lovett and Aileen (Andy) Anderson; brothers-in-law: Keith Lundquist and Jim (Georgia) Lundquist; sister-in-law: Sue Kohler; and many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; sister, Lenita Stanley; and brothers-in-law, Skip Stanley and Talmadge Lovette.
We would have loved for Dad to stay with us longer, but Judy’s “honey-do” list was getting too long!
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at First Lutheran Church, Brainerd, with visitation one-hour prior at the church.
