Earl ‘Scotty’ Adams

Earl “Scotty” Adams was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Ashland, Ky., to Don and Bessie Adams. He was the youngest of six children. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings.

Scotty graduated from Ashland High School and the University of Cincinnati. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 19 and served in the Pacific as a medical corpsman..He was on Iwo Jima at the time of the famous flag raising.

In 1949 Scotty married Loretta Bartels in Cincinnati. After raising four children, Scotty and Loretta moved to Brainerd in 1977. His voice became familiar to many in the area as an announcer for KLKS Radio for seven years.

He is survived by Loretta, his wife of 63 years; his daughter, Patricia (Peter) Irvine; his son, David (Pat) Adams; his son, James (Dagmar) Adams; his daughter, Andrea (David) Fallon; and six grandchildren, Kelsey (Sean) Irvine-McElroy, Casey Irvine, Kristine Adams, Nick (Angie) Adams, Tyler Adams and Samantha Adams.

During his lifetime Scotty was affiliated with a number of organizations including: Zurah Shrine Temple, Brainerd Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Temple, American Chemical Society, TAPPI (Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry), Park United Methodist Church and the Nisswa American Legion.

Cash memorials will be forwarded to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or direct donations may be sent to 2025 East River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55414. Memorials are also appreciated to the American Diabetes Association.

Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Brenda King officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial with military honors will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
