PILLAGER — Loren Edward Smart, resident of Pillager, born on August 24, 1949, died at his home at the age of 62 on July 15, 2012. Loren was born in Brainerd to Kenneth and Delores (Preimesberger) Smart. Loren graduated from Brainerd High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1968 and served with the First Tank Battalion, First Marine Division near Danang, Vietnam. Loren returned back to the states in 1970 where his main employment was a drywaller and painter, those talents employed him in the states of Minnesota, Colorado, Wyoming and Alaska. Loren loved to fish, hunt and take a lot of pictures of family. He was especially proud to talk about his daughter, Tiffany. He was a very kind-hearted and giving man.
Loren is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Cummings of Marathon, Fla.; brother, Donald of Pillager; sister, Susan (Scott) Fisher of Brainerd; brother, Joseph of Brainerd; six-nieces, three-nephews, seven-great nieces, three-great nephews and his two dogs, Sergeant and Frisky.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents, Delores and Kenneth; brothers, Gene and Tom.
Loren will always be remembered by his rough exterior and gruff voice saying, “Don’t worry about me, I will be ok.” Rest in Peace Loren, you are free of all the pain.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Deacon Roger Marks officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Brainerd V.F.W. Post 1647 Color Guard. Visitation will begin the hour prior to services. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
