PHOENIX, Ariz. — Mary Ann Storm, 81, passed away peacefully in her home in Phoenix on June 29, 2012. She was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Dassel, Minn. She was raised on a farm and started her education in a one-room school house. After graduation, she and some friends went to San Diego where she met Jerry Storm, a fellow Minnesotan, serving in the navy stationed in San Diego. When Jerry’s stint in the Navy ended he returned to Minnesota and they married. The marriage endured for 56 years until Jerry’s death in November 2011. They lived in Brainerd for many years and raised three boys. They were active in the First Baptist Church and made many lifelong friends there. When the boys were grown, they sold their home, bought an RV, and became “snowbirds” spending winters in Phoenix and summers in Brainerd. Mary Ann loved the heat of Phoenix but really enjoyed spending time with her friends in Brainerd. Eventually they settled in Phoenix year round where Mary Ann spent her time working on jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. She was very creative and had a lifelong passion for arts and crafts and distributed many of her oil paintings, embroidered blankets, pillows and afghans to family and friends. Right up to the time of her passing, her friends were amazed at her energy and need to always be doing something, often having more than one puzzle going at a time. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; and son, Terry. She is survived by two sons, Jay (Lisa) Storm and Tod (Kathy) Storm; two brothers, Richard (Marlene) Swanson Jr. and Robert Swanson; five grandchildren, Jessica (John) Herron, Nick, Tyler, Ashley and Jeremy Storm; and four great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and no date has been set for a memorial service.
