Matthew Edward Abel was born Nov. 20, 1981, to Roger and Pamela (Carter) Abel, in Willmar, Minn. Matthew lived in Willmar, Raymond, Montevideo and Hutchinson before moving to Brainerd in 1990. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 2001 and went on to obtain a degree as a machinist and in computer programming. He was employed as a machinist at Parker Hannifin in Deerwood, a job he loved. Matthew was taken from us on June 30, 2012, due to an accident. Matthew enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, riding his cycle, being with his dog, Zoey, and the many family pets. He was proud to become an uncle to his new nephew, Bryce.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Pam and stepfather, Charley Haukos; brother, Chad; sister, Alysia (Billy) Bigler; stepsister, Toni; stepbrother, John; and nephew, Bryce; uncles, Bruce (Kathy), Alan, Gary, Richard, Charlie (Betsy), all brothers of his father, Roger; and their sister, aunt Kathleen (Tim) Wallace, aunts Jackie (Clyde) Wessel, Barb (Len) Koester, Cindy (Percy) Johnson, uncles Brad (Jan) Carter, Michael (Kay) Carter; many cousins, extended family members; and his beloved companion, Zoey.
Matthew is preceeded in death by his father, Roger; grandparents; great-aunt, Carol; and cousin, Joshua Abel.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday with funeral services 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Ruth Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Clara City, Minn.
