Leon A. Lechner

SAUK RAPIDS — Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids for Leon A. Lechner, age 58, who passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, at the family cabin on Leech Lake. The Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate. Friends and family may visit from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids, and from 9 a.m. to time of Mass Wednesday at the church. Parish prayers will be prayed at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Leon was born Nov. 30, 1953, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Leo and Ella (Riecken) Lechner. He married Debra Murphy on May 22, 1976, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sauk Rapids. Leon graduated from St. Cloud State University where he played football and earned a master’s degree in Educational Administration. He worked at Sartell High School for 22 years as a teacher, coach and athletic director, touching the lives of students. He supported and encouraged their personal growth through athletics and academics. Most recently, Leon worked as the co-manager of the fishing department at Scheels All Sports where he worked in a field he truly loved. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and at the cabin. He will be remembered as a selfless person; his smile, laugh and loving attitude will be missed by all whom he touched.
Leon is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Debra; his sons, Zachary (Hannah), of St. Peter, Drew (fiance, Jaclyn Kramer), of Minneapolis; granddaughter, Reese; sister, Mary (John) Kiley, of Sauk Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
