Shirley Arlene (Thompson) Turner passed away April 3, 2012 in Pullman, Wash.
Shirley was born July 16, 1926 to Lewis and Ruth (Toots) Thompson of rural Brainerd, Minn. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1944, then earned her R.N. degree from St. Luke’s in Duluth. She was a caregiver by nature and always knew she wanted to be a nurse; she declared herself lucky that she was able to pursue that calling. She spent most of her working life at St. Gerard’s Hospital in Hankinson, N.D.
She married Lawrence Wayne Turner in 1948. Lawrence “Larry” died in 1981.
She was preceded in death by son, Ralph Turner.
She leaves behind daughter, Linda (Gary) Market of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Nancy Turner of Hankinson, N.D.; son, Steven Turner of Crystal, N.D.; daughters, Ruth Ann (Robert) Higgs of Prior Lake, Minn., and Karen (Randy) Olstad of Moscow, Idaho.; grandchildren, Megan, Whitney and Nolan Market; Bradley (Patricia) and Michael (Tasha) Turner; Akela Pierron; Ryan and Jerid Olstad; and great-grandchildren Phoenix Higgins, Kylie Turner, Rylan Turner and Dan and Jason Beck.
A special thank-you to Lorraine and the staff of Whispering Hills, where Shirley spent her last years. They were as kind and compassionate to her as Shirley was to others.
A private interment was held at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Brainerd, Minn. Condolences c/o Halvorson-Johnson Funeral & Cremation Care, 703 Oak Street, Brainerd, MN 56401. Memorials preferred to Alzheimer’s Association, your local volunteer EMT service, or your local school band program.
Shirley lived the Golden Rule.
