Donald Duane Johnson, age 71, of Brainerd, died at his home after a long illness on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Donald was born on August 30, 1940, in Minneapolis to Clarence and Cecelia (Wilson) Johnson. He served in the US Air Force for eight years, including a tour “in country” in Vietnam. Donald worked for the US Post Office for 30 years as a rural mail carrier.
Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Ruby; sisters, Kathy Kossila, Roselynn (Reginald) Urness, Carole (Don) Jenks; nephews, Dean (Amy) Kossila, Rodney (Julie) Shelton, Daniel (Nicki) Jenks; Nieces, Sue Kossila, Amy (Enrique) Gonzalez, Jennifer (Shawn) Wahl, and Karen Jenks; and several great nieces and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence and mother, Cecelia.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Brainerd with Pastor Dennis Paulson officiating. Military honors will be provided following services by the American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and at the church Tuesday one hour before services.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
