Ruby Peters, age 94, of Brainerd, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Ruby was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Tenstrike, Minn., the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Sherwood) Collison.
Ruby had been employed as head cook at Brainerd High School from 1969-1977. Her memberships included the Eagles, Moose Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary. Ruby was famous for her caramel rolls. She also enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing and gardening. Her yard received the “Yard of the Month” award and she had been a member of the Brainerd Garden Club. She also enjoyed Birthday Club and playing cards.
Surviving are her son Gregory (Marilyn) Peters of Brainerd; daughter-in-law Ellie Peters of Fort Ripley; seven grandchildren, Paige (Dana) Pikula, Todd (Denise) Peters, Tracy (Brian) Blaisdell, Tim (Kari) Lake, Scott Lake, Kim (Richard) Schuman, Amy Peters; 13 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; sister, Ina Wentworth of Blackduck; and sister-in-law, Donna Collison of Bemidji.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; daughter, Bonnie DeVries; son, Larry Peters; sister, Vera Jensen; and brothers, Glenn and Bruce Collison.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and the hour before services Thursday at the church.
