LITTLE FALLS — Virginia H. Lowery, 88, beloved mother, wife and grandmother passed away on Feb. 27, 2012, in Little Falls, Minn. She was born in Chester, Pa., on May 13, 1923. Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, John R. Lowery; her parents, John P. and Bessie Howard; and six siblings. She is survived by her brother, Ned Howard (Rosa) of Glendale, Md.; and her children, John (Terri), Peter ( Lori), Leslie Valesano (Robert), Robin Klosowski (Larry), B. Susanne Fitzsimmons (Dana). Also surviving her are 11 grandchildren: Emma Fitzsimmons, Meagan and Jeb Lowery, Joshua and Zachary Klosowski, Johnathan and Michael Valesano, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Rachel and Aidan Lowery and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating high in Hyattsville, Md., in 1941, Virginia worked for the government in Washington, D.C., in the payroll department and in 1949 married her high school sweetheart, John Lowery at the Macalester Presbyterian Church in St.Paul, Minn. In the mid 1950’s they settled on the banks of the Mississippi River in Little Falls to raise their family which they did with love and vigor.
Besides spending time with her husband, children and friends, Virginia loved to sing, dance, play cards and to say the least, do crossword puzzles. She was an excellent cook, participated in book clubs religiously and from 1967-1988 worked at the landmark Pine Edge Inn where she was a desk clerk. Virgnia was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, directly descending from John and Priscella Alden. She will be missed far more than words can express.
