Mary Paine, 60, passed away at her home on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2012, surrounded by family and loved ones. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, Minn. Funeral services will also be held at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, Minn., at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012.
Mary was born on Jan. 6, 1952, in Brainerd to Kenneth and Phyllis Whitney. Mary graduated from Brainerd Senior High School in 1970 where she met her future husband, Bruce Paine. She went on to nursing school at Abbott Northwestern and graduated as a registered nurse in 1973.
Mary and Bruce were married in 1973 and had lived in St. Cloud and Little Falls before building their current home in Brainerd in 1983. Mary worked as a RN at hospitals in Little Falls and St. Cloud, for Crow Wing County, and St. Joseph’s home care and hospice in Brainerd until she retired in 1999.
Her favorite things to do were gardening, cooking, entertaining, traveling, and enjoying nature along the river near her home. For many years Mary had been active with the Diabetes association and Garden club. More than anything, she devoted most of her energy to being a loving caregiver and support to her family and many friends.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bruce Paine; two children and their spouses, Joseph and Jerowen Paine and Katie and Bruno Santos; and three granddaughters, Juno, Nadia and Jaesa; mother, Phyllis Whitney; two sisters, Laurel Murphy and Wendy (Roger) Greenwalt; and her brother, Harvey (Sue) Whitney. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Tretter; and father, Kenneth Whitney.
In lieu of flowers Mary has requested that memorial donations be considered to The American Diabetes Association, Caringbridge.org, or American Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
