Thomas H. Grimes, age 84, resident of Brainerd, passed away on Wednesday Jan. 25, 2012 at Good Samaritan Society – Bethany. Thomas was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Fort Ripley to Henry and Mary (Burtrum) Grimes. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the WWII Last Man’s Club, VFW life member, R F Club and the American Legion. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Thomas was employed as an account with Warner Electric in Brainerd, Apperts in St. Cloud, REA in Ladysmith, Wisconsin and was later self employed as an accountant.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen; one son, Dennis (Shelley) Grimes, Brandon, Fla.; three daughters, Deborah (Marc) Mayne, Forest Lake, Minn., Barbara Bloom, Apple Valley, Minn. and Mary (Mike) Thompson, Hugo, Minn.; eight grandchildren; three step children, Pat (Jack) Gard, Brainerd, John Benjamin, Minneapolis and Dennis Benjamin, Moorhead, Minn.; two-step grandchildren; and seven step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine in 1981; and grandson, Wayne Benjamin.
Services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Deacon Roger Marks officiating. Visitation will be held the hour before services. Military Honors will be provided by the Brainerd VFW Post 1647 Color Guard and the American Legion Post 255 Color Guard.
