GREENWOOD, S.C. — Edna Ruth McVay Riedl, 89, the wife of the late John C. Riedl Sr., died Jan. 15, 2012, at the Hospice Home in Greenwood, S.C.
Mrs. Riedl was born in Pontotoc, Miss., July 5, 1922, the daughter of the late Robert A. and Agnes McVay.
Mrs. Riedl lived in Nisswa, Minn., for 60 years as a homemaker and a dear friend to everyone she met. The last seven years she has lived with her sister, Pat and James Bailey, of Laurens, S.C.
Surviving are one stepson, John C. Riedl, of Duluth, Minn.; two stepgrandchildren, John Riedl III, Nina Riedl Dojan; and two great-grandchildren, of Minneapolis; one brother, Jerrel McVay, Senatobia, Miss.; one sister, Pat McVay Bailey, of Laurens, S.C.; two stepsisters, Shirley Stegall and Mamie Saxon, of Pontotoc, Miss.; one stepbrother, Bill Murphee, of Houlka, Miss.; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents and her stepmother, Martha McVay, she was preceded in death by eight brothers; two stepbrothers; and one stepsister, Rachel Murphee Walker.
Memorial services will be held at Black Zion Baptist Church Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m.
