NISSWA — Bert R. Avenson, age 87, of Nisswa, passed away on Jan. 1, 2012, at Essential Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, Minn. Bert was born in Park Rapids, Minn., Sept. 24, 1924, to Egbert and Albertina (Lindberg) Avenson.
Bert was a retired farmer, resort owner and heavy equipment operator. Bert was a WWII veteran and an active member of the Nisswa American Legion Post No. 627. Bert married Virginia Bettcher Feb. 12, 1950.
Bert will be deeply missed by his children, Gail (Bob) Goble, Gaylord (Kim) Avenson, Connie (Todd) Wagner, Randy (Sheila) Avenson; grandchildren, Gerry (Maria) Goble, Cindy (Jerame) Hare, Rick Avenson, Megan Wagner, Kayla Wagner, Sarah Avenson, Ginny Avenson, Jonathan Avenson; great-grandchildren, Hailey Hare and Chevy Goble; brothers, Dean (Ardie) Avenson, Glen Avenson; sister, Eunice Koenker; also nieces and nephews.
Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Avenson; parents, Egbert and Albertina Avenson; and grandson, Sean Avenson.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home, Brainerd Chapel. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at the Nisswa Cemetery.
