Joanne E. Hershey, age 78, of Brainerd, and former Cloquet resident, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul. She was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Neenah, Wis., to Harry T. and Ethel (Mortensen) Boehm. Joanne married Robert Hershey June 20, 1959, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Neenah, Wis.
Joanne was dedicated to her family and also spent her time volunteering in many areas of the community in Cloquet and Brainerd including 14 years at the Salvation Army Food Shelf in Brainerd. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brainerd, Nisswa Women’s Club and the P.E.O.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; children, William Hershey, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Theodore (Teresa) Hershey, of Chaska, Minn., and Suzanne Hershey (John Shirley), of Nashua, N.H.; grandchildren, Jackson and Julia Hershey and Tracy (Keith) Ergen; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Joe Ergen; sister, Jane (Harry) Johnson, of Cordova, Tenn.; three nephews, Eric and Kyle Johnson and Bruce Boehm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Boehm; and daughter-in-law, Holly Royce.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the church and continue the hour before the service Tuesday.
