LaVonne Darlene Billman, 74, Brainerd, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at her home, with her husband, Ray, by her side. LaVonne will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her quick wit, sense of humor, kindness and genuine concern for her family and loved ones will always be remembered.
She was born May 22, 1937, in Brainerd to Donald William and Florence Bernice (Johnson) Spencer.
LaVonne was a mother and homemaker her entire life but worked at the garment factory in Brainerd for a few years. She was also a cook at the Rainbow Daycare Center in Brainerd.
She married Ray “Dutch” Billman on July 12, 1952, in Brainerd.
LaVonne liked to travel, go camping, do puzzles, crochet, cook and bake. Her family thoroughly enjoyed her dilly buns. She also enjoyed playing cards and board games with her family and friends. She collected hundreds of cookbooks as looking through them was a favorite pastime of hers.
LaVonne had a great sense of humor and loved hearing and telling a good joke. She was sweet, kind and considerate and loved with her whole heart. LaVonne knew the Lord Jesus as her personal savior. Her family knows they will see her again one day.
Her greatest accomplishment was her four sons: Ray Jr., Rick, Randy and Rusty as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her devoted and dedicated husband, Ray; four sons, Ray Jr., Fargo, N.D., Rick (Barb), Priest River, Idaho, Randy (Loni), Nisswa, and Rusty (Laura), Merrifield; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Billman, Mathew and Joleen Billman, Ricky (Shawna) Billman, Coralee (Bryce) Barth, Sarah Billman and Lyla Billman; and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily, Libbie and Parker Billman and Wyatt Barth; brother, Tony (Bonnie) Berndt, Pillager; sister, Linda (Dennis) Trowbridge, Merrifield; two aunts, Irma Palmer, Brainerd, and Laverna Swan, California; an uncle, Bob (Rita) Johnson, Brainerd; many nieces, nephews, cousins and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Calvin Spencer, Richard Spencer and Tom Berndt; a grandson, John Leavitt; and a granddaughter, Laureen Renee Billman.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Community Church of the Nazarene, Merrifield, with Pastor Ron Christenson officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour before the service at the church Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
