AITKIN — George C. “Dutch” Hasskamp, age 57, of Aitkin, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.
Dutch was born Sept. 24, 1953, at Crosby, Minn., the son of Gordon and Ida Mae “Breezy” (Chambers) Hasskamp. He grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1971. He then attended the Vocational School in Wadena and trained as an electrician. He married Diane R. Hanson on May 17, 1975, at Wolf Lake, Minn. They made their home in Aitkin and Dutch worked for Bob Nordean at Nordean Electric until 1979 at which time he started Dutch’s Electric which he has operated since. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook, the Rocky Mountain Elk Federation and The Minnesota Electrical Association of which he was a past president and was currently serving as a legislative chair for them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling and spending time at his cabin.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Hasskamp, of Aitkin; children, Brad Hasskamp, of Minneapolis; Shawn, and wife, Katie Hasskamp, of Aitkin, Melissa Hasskamp, of Ironton, Minn.; granddaughter, Savannah Hasskamp; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Terri Hasskamp, of Aitkin, Keith and Gina Hasskamp, of Aitkin; and aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Helen.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. from St. John’s Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook with the Rev. Sandy Berg Holte officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services at the church Thursday. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home.
