MOTLEY — Gilbert "Uncle Swede" Anderson, age 89, of Motley, passed away at the FirstLight Health System in Mora, Minn. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 5 p.m., at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, with visitation from 3-5 p.m. Burial will be at the Motley Public Cemetery in Motley, Minn., on June 25.
Gilbert was born on June 24, 1921, to Charles and Georgie Anna (Edeburn) Anderson, in rural Little Fork, Minn. He worked for Pipkorn Manufacturing, a boat manufacturer in New Brighton, Minn., for 40 years and moved to the Motley area in 1981.
Gilbert enjoyed hunting, auctions, fishing and acted as a fishing guide, reading (Louis Lamore books), creating things in his wood shop and he loved watching wildlife.
Gilbert is survived by his five children, Harley (Roy) Stromberg, Mora, Minn., Dion (Kathy) Anderson, Hector, Minn., Gerald Anderson, Bird Island, Minn., Tammy (Tim) Berg, Fairfax, Minn. and Melissa (Dean) Peterson, Olivia, Minn.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Phil, Ernie, Leonard, Jewell and Ed, along with two sisters, Laura and Edna and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mora Hospice in Mora, Minn.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
