DES MOINES, Iowa — Carol A. Smith, 90, passed away June 1, 2011, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
Carol made her home on Horseshoe Lake in Merrifield from 1984 until 2007 when she moved to Des Moines.
She loved painting, gardening and the quiet magic of the lake. Carol belonged to the Crosslake Art Club and Nisswa Garden Club. As a nature lover, she advocated for the preservation of natural habitat and the environment. She was known for her progressive views and the gorgeous display of tuberous begonias on her deck every summer.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Tim); and granddaughter, Lauren Mease, all of Des Moines; son, Dr. Russell Mott, of Silver Spring, Md.; and grandson, Leon Mott, of Minneapolis.
