Herbert LeRoy Palmer, age 80, resident of Brainerd, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at his home. He was born on Oct. 13, 1930, at home in Brainerd to parents Archie and Vera (Sylvus) Palmer. Herbert attended public school in Brainerd. He served in the Korean War with the Army from 1951 to 1953. He married Irma (Johnson) on May 23, 1953. Herbert worked at Potlatch for 39 years, retiring in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Irma; son, Daniel (Tyra), of Brainerd; daughter, Robin (Ted) Prescott, of Villard; son, Mike (Angie), of Villard; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Alvina, Mary and Sharon; brothers, Richard and Myron; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Vera Suzanne; grandson, Randy Palmer; sisters, May, Cecil; and brother, James.
He liked to fish, do woodworking, and cook. He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Community Church of the Nazarene in Merrifield with the Rev. Harvey Peterson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Brainerd V.F.W. Post No. 1647 Color Guard. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and will continue the hour before services at the church on Saturday.
