James V. Barry

BAXTER — James V. Barry, age 94, resident of Baxter, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011. He was born on March 17, 1916, in Butler, S.D., to L.W. and Jean Barry.

James attended the University of Minnesota, enlisted in the Navy and was married to LaVerne Marshall in Seattle on June 8, 1940. Following his career as a naval aviator, they moved to southern Minnesota and later to Brainerd where they have resided for the past 37 years.

Survivors include his son, James R. Barry; daughter, Linda Plonske; grandchildren, Jennifer Hendricksen (David), Scott Gumbusky, Anthony Gumbusky, Chad Barry and Dana Erickson (Gerald).

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne, in 2010.

Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Deacon Roger Marks officiating.  Burial was in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
