Genevieve E. (Havlik) Strobel, age 84, resident of Brainerd, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany. Genevieve was born on March 9, 1926, in Clarissa, Minn., to Joseph and Ella (Sumey) Havlik. Genevieve married Leonard Strobel on Aug. 6, 1947. Her memberships included Park United Methodist Church and Martha Circle, Past Matron and member of Order of Eastern Star No. 23 and member of Shrine Auxiliary. She had been a Blue Bird Leader and Camp Fire Girl Leader. She enjoyed cross-stitch and was an avid sewer. She also enjoyed watching her favorite sports teams — the Vikings and the Twins.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Strobel, of Brainerd, Susan (Kevin) Bloomberg, of Brainerd, Janet (Martin) Karlsgodt, of Brainerd, and grandchildren, Helena (John) Lease, LeaAnn, Erin and Mason Karlsgodt; daughter, Patti (Mark) Hodel, of Rosemount, and grandchildren, Zebulon and Isaac Hodel; great-grandchildren, Genevieve and John Lease; brother, Kenneth (Elaine) Havlik; sisters-in-law, Win Strobel and Virginia Molin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 2006; and sisters, Edna Cook and Florence Mudek.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will live on forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Order of Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue the hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Memorials are preferred.
