Dorothy M. Lyons

Dorothy M. Lyons, age 83, resident of Brainerd, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Dorothy was born on May 10, 1927, in Brainerd to Sidney and Ellen (Westerholm) Leonard. She married Harold Lyons on May 4, 1946. She was a member of the Eastern Star-OES Chapter 23, the Shrine Lady’s Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon (Melvin) Smith, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and their children, Brent (Sheila) Smith, Bruce (Mary) Smith, Brian (Kelly) Smith; son, Jerry (Toni) Lyons, of Brainerd, and their children, Shawn Lyons, Mike (Kelly) Lyons, Angela (Ryan) Hernesman; daughter, Janeen (Rod) Franzen and their children, Katie Schumacher, Justin Schumacher and Karli Franzen; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild;  sisters, Olga (Morris) Olson and Donna Wiggins, both of Brainerd, and her special friend of 67 years, Faye (Fred) Taft Sprecker.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1981; her parents; sister, Minnie Davies; and brothers, Stanley, Clifford and Roy Leonard.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday with Order of Eastern Star prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Visitation will continue the hour before services Thursday at the church.
