BROOKLYN CENTER — Clarence “Roy” L. Voels, age 79, of Brooklyn Center, from mesothelioma. Roy passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2010, surrounded by his family. Survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Jean; daughters, Tracy Voels and Karyn (Vladimir) Malesevic; grandchildren, Alek and Mira; brothers, Con, Bob and Louie; sisters, Joan and Joyce; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Mabel; brothers, Carl, Steve, Joe and John; sister, Marie. Born in Brainerd, Roy truly enjoyed his 20 years in the Air Force. This first career allowed him to travel and photograph the world. He discovered a joy for fast cars and skiing while in Germany, and Jean, the love of his life, while in Scotland.  Roy was an ardent Twins fan and outdoorsman who enjoyed duck, pheasant and mushroom hunting. Intellectually curious, he relished a good debate and would gladly take either side of a topic. An opera lover since his teens, Roy took a vacation week from 3M whenever the Metropolitan Opera was in town. Opera and classical music filled his home and life. Roy was a kindhearted, intelligent, responsible family man with a great sense of humor. His family will miss him dearly. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorial gathering was held at Gearty Delmore, Robbinsdale Chapel. Memorials to the charity of your choice.
