PEKIN, Ill. — Sydney Jean Peterson, 68, of 2812 Black Oak Drive in Pekin, Ill., passed away at 7:31 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at her residence.
She was born March 1, 1942, in Pekin to Jacob and Hilda (Van Horn) Johnson. Her parents preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her longtime husband, Charles “Skip” Peterson, who passed away in 1998.
Surviving are her life partner whom she shared a home with, Larry Bailey. She also leaves some extended family and many dear friends.
Syd worked for the State of Minnesota for 30 years in Special Education, retiring in 1992. She formerly resided in Brainerd, Minn., where she volunteered at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
She will be remembered as a creative person who enjoyed painting and also decorating. Syd also had a love for animals, especially her dogs, Leroy and Rowdy.
Private graveside services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd, Minn., at a later date. Per her wishes, cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
