A special teacher graduated from life on Dec. 3, 2010. Anna was born on March 28, 1907, to Charles and Hannah (Pedersen) Hendrickson, who were both Scandinavian immigrants to the Minnesota area. She was the fifth of nine children in a family that grew up in Southeast Brainerd. She continued her early education through Normal School and started teaching east of Brainerd, right after graduation. Her husband to be, Edward R. Brandt, owned Brandt's garage, and was happy to drive her back and forth to school. They married on June 29, 1929, in Brainerd, Minn., and Anna discontinued teaching to raise her family and pursue blueberries with her sister and friends. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church and a famous supporter of Sunday school and Vacation Bible school for her children. In the early 50s, when her husband's health became an issue, she returned to teaching at a country school near Merrifield. After Edward's death in 1954, she returned to college, while continuing to teach, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, which licensed her to teach in the Brainerd Public Schools. In 1972, she retired after many years at Lowell Grade School. She lived in her beloved Brainerd, Minn., for all of her 103-plus years. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; and all of her siblings; her husband, Edward; and her son, Robert Brandt. She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine (Brandt) Yde and the late Markson Yde, of Somers, Mont., Marion (Brandt) Weismann and Thomas Weismann, of Anchorage, Alaska; and her late son Robert's wife, Sally (Ortiz) Brandt, of Valparaiso, Ind.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. before the service begins at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010. A reception will follow the services at First Presbyterian. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
