Ida F. Olson, 96, left us to be with her Lord on Nov. 24, 2010. For many years she said that God hadn't painted her room yet, and when God was ready he would complete it.
Ida was born Dec. 14, 1913, in Voltaire, N.D., to Christian and Emma (Wimpheimer) Bohner. She grew up in North Dakota and graduated from Velva High School in 1932.
In 1934 Ida married Olaf S. Olson. They lived and farmed in Russell and Tyler Minnesota for 12 years and raised five daughters. In 1948 they moved to Norcross, Minn., where they farmed and raised dairy cattle. In 1965 they moved to Pillager and Ida joined the First Lutheran Church. She participated in Circle and Bible Study as long as health permitted. In October 2002 she moved to Bethany Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
Ida took pride in her garden and shared her produce. She was an excellent seamstress and insured her daughters were always dressed well. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and making quilts for family, friends and other worthy causes with dozens of quilts going to Lutheran World Relief. When she grew tired of sewing, she'd switch to crocheting. Her hands were always busy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Olaf; brothers, Benjamin, Charles, Fred and George; daughters, Shirley Wentworth, Anita Oachs and Charlotte Avery. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Manns, Michigan; and daughters, Marilyn Sheridan, Greenwood, S.C., and Marcy Hackett, Victorville, Calif.; son-in-laws, George Wentworth and Jerry Oachs; as well as seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services for Ida will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Pillager, Minn., with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.
Arrangements are with the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Brainerd.
