Arnold Henry Gangestad, age 96, Sartell, Minn., formerly of St. Cloud and Brainerd, Minn., died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at Country Manor Health Care Center, Sartell, Minn.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, Minn. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, Minn.
Arnold was born June 5, 1914, in Armstrong, Iowa, to Henry S. and Carrie B. (Goldsberry) Gangestad. He married Alice M. Blomstrom on Oct. 23, 1943, in Brainerd, Minn. Arnold served in the United States Army during WW II from 1941 to 1944. He was employed as a salesman for Burton's, Brainerd, Minn. Arnold was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Brainerd, Minn., where he served as treasurer for seven years. He was also a member of Brainerd American Legion Post No. 255, Brainerd Disabled American Veterans, and the Military Order of Purple Heart. Some of Arnold's favorite pastimes were fishing and baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Gangestad of Sartell, Minn.; son, Earle (Rachel) Gangestad of Westerville, Ohio; daughter, Linda Skarolid of Coon Rapids, Minn.; sisters, Doris Carlson of Armstrong, Iowa; Mavis Nelson of Sheridan, Wyo.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Gangestad; and sister, Helen Orange.
