CROSBY — Raymond Paul Hawks, age 84, of Crosby, died on May 7, 2013, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. He was born on Sept. 4, 1928, in Crosby to Roy Samuel and Joyce (Freeman) Hawks. Ray retired in 1991 after 27 years as a custodian for the Crosby-Ironton School District. He was a U.S. Army veteran; he was a lifelong member of the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post No. 557 of Deerwood, the Crow Wing County DAV. He served 22 years on the Housing and Urban Redevelopment Authority (HUD) board of directors. He spent most of those years as the vice president on the board.

Shirley A. Schwietz passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Rudy Swelland; and sister, Judy Cunningham. Survived by husband of 57 years, David Schwietz; children, Cynthia Schwietz, David (Christina) Schwietz; granddaughters, Chloe and Annika; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

James O. Shepard, age 82, passed away on May 6, 2013, at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Glow (Keith) Bechard, of Brainerd, James L. Shepard, formerly of Brainerd, Carrie (Kevin) Stahl, of Brainerd, Brent (Meggan) Shepard, of Nisswa; grandchildren, Chris Dau, Derek Dau, Kara Shepard, Kristin Stahl, Brianna Stahl, Jordan Stahl; sister, Evelyn Judd, of Beggs, Okla.

He is preceded in death by parents; and his wife, Judy in 2011; brothers, Clifford and Tracy; sisters, Mary Stickney, Alice Engelhart, Florence Prigge.

AITKIN — Daniel E. Quast, 65, of Aitkin, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at his residence. He was born Dec. 25, 1947, in Chaska to Melvin and Lucille (Lambrecht) Quast. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Daniel was united in marriage to Diane M. (Dockendorf) March 4, 1984. They lived in Elk River prior to moving to Aitkin in 1991. They owned Quast Construction. He was preceded in death by his parents.
