Henry G. Peck, Sr. (Hank) passed away at Good Samaritan Nursing Home on Feb. 28, 2011, at the age of 90. He had a history of a heart condition, nervous conditions, and numerous other health problems, some caused by serving in the 194th Tank Company A as a corporal in the Philippine Islands, being a Bataan Death March survivor and prisoner of war in Japan.

Virginia “Ginny” Vogt, 71, of Brainerd, died at her home on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Tony Wroblewski officiating. Visitation will be held at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery Columbarium in Little Falls.

Monsignor Bernard Popesh, 87, died on Feb. 25, 2011, at the Benedictine Health Center. Monsignor Popesh was born in Ely on Jan. 25, 1924. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Duluth by Bishop Thomas Welch in Sacred Heart Cathedral on June 4, 1949, and was sent for further studies to the Catholic University of America where he was awarded the licentiate in canon law in 1953. In 1961, Pope John XXIII named him a Domestic Prelate with the title, Monsignor.

AITKIN — Raymond C. Kaiser, age 85, of Aitkin, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.

He is survived by two daughters, Betty (Jerry Fridgen) Cooper, of Aitkin, Judy (Jim) Trott, of Brainerd, Minn., John (Kathy) Kaiser, of Madison, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great -grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother; and one sister-in-law.

Betty Jane Chapman passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at the age of 90 at Woodland Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brainerd. Betty was born March 20, 1920, to Chester and Liva (Rader) Munn in Trumboll, Neb. She married Herbert Austin Chapman. Together they raised three children. Betty worked as a teacher’s assistant for Brainerd schools for special needs students for several years.

STAPLES — Lois J. Mick, age 80, of Staples, passed away at Lakewood Health System Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in the spring.
