Lisa Renee (Valentino) Hughes, age 54, died in Georgetown, S.C., on April 9, 2013, after a courageous three month battle with cancer. Lisa was born on Jan. 6, 1959, to Reno and Beatrice (Moritz) Valentino.

BACKUS — Dale Burke, age 74, of Backus, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society, Pine River. He was born to Warren and Marcia Burke on Oct. 25, 1938, in Minneapolis. Dale was a fifth grade teacher until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was also a reserve police officer for the Minneapolis Police Department.

Dale is survived by his nephew, Jason Burke (Mindy); niece, Lisa McClintock (Michael); great-nieces, Brooke Pearson, MaKayla McClintock; great-nephews, Maxwell Raymond Burke, Reid McClintock and Levi McClintock.

CUYUNA — Marie Mildred Peterson, age 98, of Cuyuna, died on May 13, 2013, at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. She was born in Rabbit Lake Township on June 29, 1914, to Nicholai and Emma (Martin) Burgwald. Marie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Cedarbrook. She was a past Iron Hub 4-H Club leader and a proud participant at Treasured Times in Crosby.

MONTICELLO — Rose Marie Tuil, age 76, of Monticello, and formerly of Maplewood, died at her residence on Monday, May 13, 2013. She was born on Nov. 18, 1936, in Brainerd, Minn., to Hugo and Anna (Wgiehopki) Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; daughter, LuVay; and brother, Kenneth.
