BAXTER — Betty Jessen, age 65, of Baxter, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to Roy and Mabel Noreen on July 31, 1947, in Brainerd. She married the love of her life, Randy Jessen on Sept. 6, 1969, in Brainerd.

Alice J. Lundmark

Alice J. Lundmark, age 94, of Brainerd, passed away on April 11, 2013, in Nisswa, Minn.

She was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Berner, Minn.

Alice loved having company and would always welcome anyone with a cup of coffee and a cookie. She was an excellent cook and delighted in making jams and baking breads and cookies. She sang in the choir and also taught Sunday school for many years.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Dennis (Sally), David, Susan (Wayne) Kampen and Shirlee (Michael) Allen; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Collette.

Valere Magnan

After a courageous three year battle with cancer, Valere C. Magnan died in the comfort of his home in Fort Ripley on April 11, 2013. Valere was born in Brainerd in 1950 to Maurice and Alice Magnan. He grew up on their family farm in the St. Mathias area with his siblings Norma, Louis, Lucille and Milo.

In 1968, Valere married Leatte H. Olson and began their family together. Their children are Shon (Julie), Brant (O.J.) and Angela (Josh). His grandchildren are Emily, Katelyn, Luca, Tessa and Colt.

Donald Knold

Donald Knold, age 79, passed away on Jan. 3, 2013, in Brainerd, Minn., after a long battle of Huntington’s Disease. Memorial services will be on Friday, April 19, 2013, 1 p.m. at Good Samaritan Society–Bethany, 804 Wright St., Brainerd, Minn., with the Rev. Mark Skinner and the Rev. David Grotzke officiating. Visitation will be a half hour before services. Interment at Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery, Little Falls, Minn.

Frederick ‘Fred’ P. Dodson

MORAGA, Calif. — After a hard fought battle with cancer, Frederick Porter Dodson passed away at his home March 25, 2013.

Fred was born June 12, 1953, in Kittery, Maine, the first son of three children for pediatrician Dr. Albertus “Bud” Dodson and his wife, Kathleen Roller Dodson.

Blanche M. Halgerson

BAXTER — Blanche M. Halgerson, 91, of Baxter, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013, surrounded by family. Blanche was born in Maple Plain, Minn., on Aug. 20, 1921, to Paul and Ida Splettstoesser. The family later moved to Braham where she grew up. She is survived by her children, Sherrie (Dale) Christensen, Baxter, and Jim (Anne) Halgerson, of St. Paul.
