BAXTER — Betty Jessen, age 65, of Baxter, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral service to be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church on Sunday.

Interment at Baxter Cemetery on Monday, April 22, 2013, at 10 a.m.

MERRIFIELD — Bertina “Bertie” Nelson, age 82, resident of Merrifield, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany.

Bertie was born on Feb. 11, 1931, in Brainerd to Frank and Nina (Callahan) Wels.

She shared her home with Rollie in Brainerd, Babbit, Minn. (Iron Range), Avondale, Phoeniz, Ariz., Dayton/Osseo and Plymouth, Minn., before retiring to Merrifield, Minn.

Bertie played both the accordion and piano by ear. She enjoyed bird watching, crossword puzzles, wood burning, painting, crocheting and knitting. She was not afraid to try anything.

GARRISON — Robert E. Thompson, age 80, of Garrison, formerly NE Minneapolis, died on April 14, 2013, at the Maple Grove Hospital. He was born on April 29, 1932, in Minneapolis to Lars and Marion (Evenson) Thompson. He was a Korean War Army veteran. Bob was a retired Teamster driving for Midwest Motor Express in Roseville. He was a member of the Garrison VFW No. 1816 and Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison.

Catherine May Henderson, of Brainerd, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, in St. Paul. Services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services.

Catherine was born on Oct. 31, 1921, in Viroqua, Wis., the daughter of Nels and Mary (Coss) Hoiland. She was united in marriage to William Henderson in 1941. Catherine loved spending time with her children.
