Holiday sales have many area merchants singing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” Patrons are buying and cash tills are ringing. Larry Anderson of J.C. Penney says, “It’s been great.” Bill Brekken of Herberger’s called it “a green year for retailers.”

The Dial-A-Ride bus system marked the beginning of its third full year in 1983 and bus ridership figures show that it’s an idea that appeals to bus riders. Wally Gavin of the bus committee says, “It’s more than doubled riders over the old fixed route system.”

Santa Claus was hospitalized here this week, but thanks to excellent care by St. Joseph’s Hospital staff he is ready for his vital business. One doctor’s order said to put toy sacks near the bed. Another said to restrict phone calls to those from Mrs. Claus or elves.

The end of a disastrous road trip was completed when the Warriors received a 62-47 licking at Hibbing to go with the 59-45 loss the night before at Virginia. The cold shooting from the first game carried over with Brainerd hitting in the low 20 percents.
