The island for which Crow Wing State Park is named is now a part of the park – for all practical purposes. The approximately 110 acres were purchased from Dennis Eastman by the Minnesota Parks and Trails Council, a non-profit. The park will use the land.

(Photos) Mike Studer of Illinois caught this 11-7 walleye on Gull Lake using a Lindy Rig combination. Anoka anglers Brian and Jim Gross caught this walleye limit on Mille Lacs Lake on Rapala lures in 12 feet of water. The largest scaled 8-10.

Brainerd fisherman George Knerr got the thrill of a lifetime when he caught a 40-pound silver muskie while fishing from shore on the Mississippi. Using an old rod and reel with old line, he got it to shore and pulled it out. It’s on display at Cole’s Sports Shop.
80 years ago (1933)
An inspired Brainerd football team rode the crest of consecutive victories to its third triumph, against Staples, with the Blue and White winning by 7-0. Treacherous footing on the Staples field and a screaming wind made passes and punts almost impossible.
100 years ago (1913)
A.C. Falconer, a corporal of the Fourth Cavalry of the United States Army, stationed at Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands, has arrived home for a short furlough and will visit his father, brothers and sister.
