The sheriff’s department is investigating a weekend break-in at the Nisswa American Legion Club. Thieves tossed a cement block through a glass door in the rear of the building to gain entry. They ransacked the club and took several money bags.

Seven women staying on the north side of Whitefish Lake became ill early today after eating wild mushrooms. They called the sheriff to say they were headed to St. Joseph’s Hospital. They were transferred by ambulance to Northwestern hospital, treated and recovered.

Cole’s Sports Shop fishing contest is closed for the year with these winners: A 22-9 northern caught on Pelican Lake, an 11-4 walleye from Whitefish Lake, a 7-2 largemouth bass from Wise Lake and a 5-6 smallmouth bass caught on the Crow Wing River.

Under regulations from the federal emergency highway program, which is funding the paving of Hwy 2 (Washington St.) through the city, a few of Brainerd’s unemployed are finding good wages. Laborers get 55 cents an hour and drivers receive 65 cents.
100 years ago (1913)
John Pelkey, the Laurel Street shoemaker, has fallen heir to the beautiful pet deer owned by his brother, William, of Remer. He has offered the deer to the park board for keeping at Gregory Park, providing they build a fence and quarters for it and take good care of it.
