The Brainerd boys’ cross country team, led by Tim Kidder, finished second at the Monticello Invitational. Kidder won the boys’ race in 16:51. “Kidder broke ahead of the field at the half-mile mark and never looked back,” said Warrior coach Dave Herath.

Carol Winegar, a 26-year-old farmer’s daughter from New Richland, has made history by becoming Brainerd’s first female dentist, working as an associate to Dr. Robert Bender. Her career seemed predestined, as she has a sister and brother who are both dentists.

Jocko, the monkey who escaped from the Paul Bunyan Center has been captured by Sheriff Wicklund and Brainerd police after three days freedom. Before capture he stole bananas from the home of Larry Lopp and visited the Super Valu and Brainerd Garment Factory.

“Talk about hard luck,” says P.T. Brown. I was going to St. Paul and asked the wife to buy me a hat. She was bringing two hats home for my inspection when she stepped on a frog, fell, sprained her wrist and dented both hats. I had to buy both of them.
